It takes about 6 hrs to drive thru Georgia. Stop around Atlanta over night. If you leave early enough will still be daylight in ATL when you get there. Also there are rest stops along the way for the family to get out and stretch their legs.

Anywhere in TN is a good half way point.
When we drove to Orlando last summer, we left about 7pm and got through OH. We got a hotel south of Cincinnati. We drove about 10-11 hours the next day, then got another hotel just north of the FL border. That way, the day we arrived at Disney, we’d only drove a few hours.

My husband and I always stop in Louisville KY when we head to Florida. But we travel Interstate 75 and head to the Gulf Coast to visit family in the Tampa area.
You might want to try the TripTiks from AAA. They’re a lot quicker than MapQuest and Internet searches.

definitely push past Chattanooga and spend time in the Smokies, Gatlinburg (knoxville) in TN or the Carolina side, and Asheville area

Tennessee. That’s where we stop on our way. It’s when the kids do start to get fussy and we are all tried of the drive.
